Luett's back-to-back rounds of 73 close out Clarke Fall Classic win

GALENA, Ill. - Closing out their final home tournament of the fall but just the halfway point of their four-rounds in four-days stretch, the Clarke University men's golf team finished in second place at the Clarke Fall Classic on Saturday at Eagle Ridge Resort and Spa.

Clarke took a team lead into the final round after a strong 310 first round but put up a 325 in the second as Wheaton, who shot a 319 in the first round for second place, answered with a tournament-low 307 to finish at 626 to Clarke's 635 team score.

The Pride didn't walk away without first place hardware however, as junior Jacob Luett shot matching scores of 73 to finish with a 146 for the tournament individual championship, three strokes better than the runner-up Sam Obitts from Wheaton.

Behind Luett, all of Clarke's top five was within the top 10 of the individual leaderboard but it was Jesse Frye who was the lone member of CU's A squad to finish in the top 10 as he earned a fifth place finish with his matching scores of 79 to finish at a 158 total.

Another member of the Pride finished in the top 10 but it was from their B unit as Francis Resurreccion went 85-79=164 to finish in a tie for ninth as both Jared Martinson (82-85=167) and Logan Winn (81-88=169) were the only other CU golfers to stay under 170 in the two-round total.

The remainder of the competitors for Clarke were Alijah Dopson (77-93=170), Anthony Eddy (86-87=173), Mitchel Coffey (89-92=181), Hayden Hoekstra (88-87=175), and Preston Beels (103-95=198) as all but Dopson represented the second group of five but Dopson's 77 played a big factor in Clarke's first round lead.

Pride men's golf will continue on this weekend as they'll compete in another two-day tournament, this time hosted by Loras College at The Meadows in Asbury, Ill. on Sunday and Monday.
