Pride wrap up regular season at The Verhille Invitational in Iowa City

IOWA CITY, Iowa - Getting back on the course for one final time before the Heart of America Athletic Conference Championship next week, the Clarke University men's golf team couldn't find a groove over a two-day event to a 14th place finish at The Verhille Invitational.

The Pride sent six total participants to the Mount Mercy University hosted event as they were led by junior Carter Ruegsegger who tied for 38th with a 79 in round one followed by an 81 in Wednesday's round for a tournament total of 160.

The team score was rounded out in each of the rounds by Jesse Frye's 82-83=165, Logan Winn's 84-83=167, and Alijah Dopson's 85-82=167 as Jared Martinson was the fifth team player and Francis Resurreccion participated as an individual with the senior carding 87-84=171 and the sophomore finishing at 86-81=167.

Kirkwood Community College won the event and had the individual medalist as the team's 584 was 24 strokes better than the second place team and Grant Greazel's 143 (71-72) finished three strokes better than second place.

Clarke men's golf will now prepare for that Heart Championship that will take place next Monday and Tuesday at The Preserve in Moravia, Iowa for their second Heart event at The Preserve this season after finishing tied for ninth at the Heart Preview in the fall.
