Pride finish up lone home spring tournament at Clarke Spring Invite

GALENA, Ill. - Getting their spring portion of the season in full gear, the Clarke University men's and women's golf teams competed at their only home event of the spring at the Clarke Spring Invite at Galena Golf Club on Tuesday.

The Pride women finished in fourth place as the men split up into two different teams with their top-five finishing in eighth and the next five finishing in 12th.

The top score for Clarke's women came in Gabby Weyland's spring debut as she shot an even 100 to finish tied for 13th in the individual competition. Closely behind Weyland were Lilia Lindgren's 107 and MacKenzie Saylor's 112 as the Clarke team finished with a final team score of 463.

The best individual score for the men was from Kade Salemi as he shot a 77 (+5) to finish in a tie for 11th out of the 77-man field. Carter Ruegseggar finished just behind Salemi in his first official competition for the Pride with a 78 (+6) as Alex McLeland's 81 (+9), Ben Baker's 84 (+12), and Francis Resurreccion's 84 (+12) rounded out the Clarke A score of 320.

For the Clarke B squad, Nick Stroschein and Jared Martinson finished with matching 82 (+10) scores to lead the second unit as Jesse Frye and Greg Witte both carded 89s and Mitchel Coffey finished at 93 for the team's 342 total score. The pair of Vincent Forseth and Alex Beard competed as individuals as Forseth finished at 97 for the round and Beard ended at 99.

The Pride men will have a quick turnaround to take a trip up to Onalaska, Wis. for the Viterbo Match Play on Wednesday as the women's next event will be this Saturday and Sunday at the Wartburg Invitational in Waverly, Iowa.
