Clarke men's golf improves on scores between first and second rounds to finish seventh at Clarke Fall Classic

DUBUQUE, Iowa - Playing both The General and the North Course at Eagle Ridge Resort and Spa, the Clarke University men's golf team ended their hosting duties at the Clarke Fall Classic with a team final score of 662 (+86) to finish in seventh place.

The Pride finished just a team stroke back of both Viterbo University and Augustana College, who tied for fifth with matching 661 (+85) scores over the two rounds. The team winners were from Mount Mercy University as they finished 11 strokes in front of Hawkeye Community College with a 603 (+27) outpacing the 614 (+38) from the runners-up.

Individually CU had a pair of teams and two more individuals in the tournament for 12 total members of the Pride competing. Justin Everson was the lowest score of the 12 players as he finished with a 161 (+17) after rounds of 81 and 80. Alex McLeland and Kade Salemi both finished with matching 165 (+21) scores as McLeland was the more consistent of the two with rounds of 83 and 82 but Salemi shot a 79 on Saturday after posting an 86 on Friday.

The remainder of Clarke's A team saw Ben Baker bounce back on Saturday after Friday's 90 to shoot an 81 at the North Course to finish at 171 (+27) and Francis Reserreccion also improved from Friday to Saturday with an 85 after a 93 for a 178 (+34).

The second team for Clarke had Jesse Fry shoot the low round of the tournament with a 77 at The General on Friday but he followed it up with a 91 at the North Course for a tournament total of 168 (+24) to finish tied for 37th. Nick Stroschein had matching scores of 85 on Friday and Saturday for a 170 (+26), Greg Witte shot a 186 (+42), and Cole Runde ended the tournament with a 188 (+44).

The two individuals playing for Clarke were Mitchel Coffey (192) and Alex Beard (206) as they continue to get work in as freshmen in their first year at Clarke.

CU men's golf will be competing over the next two days as well when they participate in the Loras Invite at Thunder Hills Country Club in Peosta, Iowa.
