Pride men's golf finishes up Clarke Fall Invitational with fifth and 11th place finishes
GALENA, Ill. - It was a pretty good day to start the 2021-22 season for the Clarke University men's golf team as they had a pair of teams compete at the Clarke Fall Invitational at the South Course of Eagle Ridge Resort and Spa in Galena, Ill. on Tuesday.
Clarke's top-five that consisted of Justin Everson, Kade Salemi, Ben Baker, Francis Resurreccion, and Alex Mcleland finished in fifth place while the next five of Nick Stroschein, Jared Martinson, Jesse Frye, Greg Witte, and Cole Runde tied for 11th place.
The Pride also had three individuals compete as Mitchel Coffey and Alex Beard got their first taste of college golf as freshmen and Vincent Forseth withdrew midway through the tournament.
The top scorer of the tournament for CU was Baker as he carded a Clarke low 78 (+6) to tie for sixth place individually from the No. 3 spot in the Clarke A team. He was the only member of the Pride to shot sub-80 as Reserreccion shot an 81 (+9), Everson shot an 82 (+10), Salemi shot an 85 (+13), and Mcleland shot a 95 (+23) to round out the Clarke A team's round.
The next five was led by Stroschein as he shot an 86 (+14) edge out Frye in that group, who finished with an 89 (+17). The rest of the Clarke B group finished as such, Martinson carded a 93 (+21), Runde finished at 95 (+23), and Witte shot a 96 (+24).
Clarke men's golf will get back on the course this weekend when they compete at the Mount Mercy Fall Classic at Hunters' Ridge Golf Course in Marion, Iowa on Saturday and Sunday this weekend.
