Pride defeated by Graceland 85-68

LAMONI, Iowa – Looking to get revenge from their November 29th matchup, the Clarke University men's basketball team lost in their rematch to Graceland University 85-68 on Thursday evening.

The Pride found their stroke from the three-point arc to begin the game as 18 of their first 24 points came off of three's. After a Chris Burnell three-point make put Clarke up 24-20 with 7:35 remaining in the first half, the Yellowjackets would go on a 21-6 run the remainder of the half and go into the locker room with a 41-30 lead.

The Yellowjackets would outshoot the Pride in the first half with their 17-32 (53.1%) compared to 12-29 (41.4%). Despite starting the game shooting well from deep, CU would go 6-18 (33.3%) from three to end the first compared to GU's 4-10 (40%).

The balanced scoring attack of Graceland proved to be too much for the Pride as they would build their lead up to as much as 20 points halfway through the second half, led by senior Seth Compas. Compas, who is averaging 14.3 points per game, almost put that up in the last 20 minutes, as he scored 11 in the second half on his way to an 18-point game.

CU would battle their way back to within 11 points with 2:43 remaining in regulation, but that would be as close as the Pride would get in their 85-68 defeat.

After having only five points in the first half, senior Anthony Eddy would score 17 points in the final 20 minutes of action to lead all scorers with 22 points on 6-13 (46%) from three. Burnell would finish with 13 points on 5-10 (50%) from the floor and Daquon Lewis scored 10 points with six rebounds.

Other than Compas, GU had five other players score in double figures as Trenton Daughtry scored 14 points with five rebounds and seven assists. Aleksa Markovic scored 12 points on 5-8 (62.5%) shooting. CJ Wilson and JT Washington both finished with 11 points. Finally, Winslow Martin scored 10 points on 4-7 (57%) shooting.

The Pride men's basketball team will be on the road for the second straight game as they will head to Des Moines for a matchup against Grand View University on Saturday, January 21st at 2:00 pm CST.
