Pride shooting cools off in second half of 95-77 loss to Baker

DUBUQUE, Iowa - Returning to game action following their winter break, the Clarke University men's basketball got off to a strong shooting start but couldn't maintain in a 95-77 loss to Baker University on Tuesday afternoon.

A tight, mostly one-possession game throughout a lot of the first half saw the Pride catch fire from three point range as Anthony Eddy hit a triple at the 7:51 mark to make it a 35-33 CU lead as he and Demarcus Zaragoza traded three-point makes to extend that lead to 47-39 with just under five minutes remaining.

Free throws from Drake Hammel and Lajarrion Spinks extended CU's lead to its largest at 50-39 before the Wildcats went on a run of their own to regain the lead by the halftime break at 55-54 after 20 minutes before they wouldn't look back and led throughout the entirety of the second half to pull away and win by the final of 95-77 at the buzzer.

Baker was able to take Clarke's best shot of shooting 11-of-20 (55%) from three-point range in the first half led by Eddy's 6-of-9 (66.7%) performance from distance as he scored 18 of his game-high 21 points in the first half. BU themselves shot 22-of-39 (56.4%) from the field but mainly two-point field goals as they only went 4-of-11 (36.4%) from three point range as Quentin Harvey scored 14 of his team-leading 20 points in the first half.

The Wildcats had three other players in double figures behind Harvey's 20 as Braden Wiggs scored 16 points, Jalen Patterson had 14, and Joshua Kelly had 11 off the bench as both Harvey and Wiggs were all over the glass combining for 17 of the team's 56 rebounds. Those 56 rebounds significantly outrebounded Clarke's 27 rebounds as BU also grabbed 17 offensive rebounds, nearly matching CU's 19 defensive rebounds, leading to 16 second chance points for Baker.

Clarke will continue into the bulk of their conference schedule as they will hit the road for Springfield, Mo. for a matchup with Evangel University on Saturday with a scheduled tip of 2:00 p.m. CT.
