Pride lose steam in second half towards 98-83 loss to Peru State

DUBUQUE, Iowa - Looking for a little payback from an early season loss, the Clarke University men's basketball team fell short in a 98-83 loss to Peru State College on Wednesday night at the Kehl Center.

The Pride had a strong opening 10 minutes, holding a lead as large as 20-7 at the 11:34 mark but PSC came storming back to eventually take a lead into halftime at 52-44 after 20 minutes of play.

CU put up some runs that got them within striking distance of the Bobcats in the second half but a turning point was a stretch of three-straight fouls called on Clarke big man Jacob Fierst that resulted in an offensive foul, shooting foul on defense, and a technical that fouled Fierst out of the game in the span of 27 seconds of game time. Those three fouls were his third, fourth, and fifth personals in the game as he would foul out with the Pride trailing 80-66 with 9:19 remaining in the second half.

Fierst was still the Pride's leading scorer with a 22-point, six-rebound performance in 30 minutes while adding two assists and a steal on the night. Jordan Lake (18), Keith Johnson (12), and Chandler Dean (10) all finished in double figures as well but Johnson and Lake had specific shooting struggles in the game as Lake missed seven of his 10 free throw attempts and Johnson went just 3-of-9 from the field and 1-of-5 from three point range.

For the Bobcats, Henry Tanksley finished with a game-high 26 points on 7-of-10 shooting from the field and 6-of-7 shooting from three point range as he started a perfect 6-for-6 from deep. Both Troy Houghton and Skyler Wilson finished with 20 points as Houghton grabbed seven rebounds and Jibril Harris ended the night with 15 points and eight rebounds.

Clarke men's basketball will finish up their home conference schedule this Friday when Culver-Stockton College visits the Kehl Center before they end their non-conference and overall home schedule on Sunday in a matchup with Iowa Wesleyan, those games will tip off at 7:30 and 3:00 p.m. respectively.
