Pride suffer tough defeat to No. 3 Grand View

DES MOINES, Iowa - Playing the last game before the official halfway point of the season, the Clarke University football team struggled to keep up with No. 3 Grand View University to the tune of an 89-0 victory for the Vikings in Des Moines, Iowa on Saturday afternoon.

A rough middle of the game spelled doom for the Pride as Grand View was able to put up 38 points in the second quarter to lead 48-0 at halftime before adding 27 more points coming out of the locker room to lead 75-0 after three quarters.

That second quarter saw the Vikings score two defensive touchdowns and a one-play touchdown following a turnover on downs in just about two minutes of game time as the first score came on a 55-yard interception return touchdown by Daviere Jones, followed by a nine-yard touchdown run Jonah Miyazawa after a mismanaged punt snap gave GVU the ball on Clarke's nine yard line, then they closed out that run withg a fumble return for a touchdown by Tucker Dickherber to make the 10-0 game to a 31-0 game in 2:04 of total game time.

Grand View quarterback Jackson Waring finished the game with 83 passing yards and 44 rushing yards with three total touchdowns, two in the air and one on the ground, while Titus Christiansen ran led the game with 59 rushing yards and two touchdowns on just nine caries while backup quarterback Peyton Rottinghaus added 63 passing yards and 20 rushing yards with a passing and rushing touchdown.

Clarke's offensive leaders were freshman quarterback Carson Estrada, who threw for 64 yards but had two interceptions while Gustav Nordberg-Risto carried the ball 19 times foe 32 yards and six different Pride receivers caught a passs led by a 22 yard reception from Jackson Ostrander.

Pride football will head into the bye week with a 1-5 record and 0-2 in the Heart North as they will come out of the bye week with a home game on Oct. 19 against Graceland University for a 1:00 p.m. CT kickoff at Dalzell Field.
