Pride suffer loss to Viking in season finale, 31-7

DUBUQUE, Iowa – The Clarke Pride football program closed the book on the 2021 season with a sour taste in the mouth as the No. 3 Grand View Vikings rolled into Dubuque and gave the home team a 31-7 loss on Saturday.

Grand View's Nathan Hamilton connected on a 29-yard field goal, while Ali Scott ran for a three-yard touchdown to open up the first quarter for the Vikings. Scott went on to score two touchdowns in the second quarter - one off a 14-yard rush and another on a seven-yard pass from quarterback Drew Adams to give the Vikings a 24-0 halftime lead.

The Pride got on the board after running back Cori Davis (FR/Winter Haven, Fla.) took a screen pass from QB Kenyon Williams (SO/San Diego, Calif.) 63 yards to the end zone near the end of the third quarter to trim the deficit to 17. However, that was as close as the Pride could get to turning the game around, as Grand View's Casey Hill scored on a seven-yard scamper with 7:38 to play in regulation to put the game out of reach.

Time of possession proved costly for the Pride, who saw Grand View control the clock with just over 38 minutes of offensive play time.

Adams finished the game with 45 yards on five-for-nine passing, while Scott ran for 157 yards on 22 carries for the Vikings. Linebacker Nate Ewell led the team with eight total tackles, including a team-high 4.5 for loss.

Williams finished the day 10-for-15 for 107 yards and the lone score. RB Garrett Egan (JR/Merced, Calif.) struggled to find running room and finished the day with seven yards on 15 carries. Defensively, Logan Otting (FR/Cascade, Iowa) piled up 15 tackles to lead the Pride's defense.

The day marked a recognition of Clarke's senior class, which is the first in program history. The 11 seniors will be forever remembered for their contributions to a program that played its inaugural season in 2019.
