Pride split series opening day at Culver-Stockton

CANTON, Mo. - With still plenty to play for in the regular season, the Clarke University baseball team was able to pull off winning one of two low scoring affairs on Saturday afternoon at Culver-Stockton College.

The Pride were able to grab a 2-1 win in the opener behind another strong starting performance from Tyson Tucker as he went five scoreless innings while striking out eight batters and only allowing four hits and two walks.

He was relieved by a scoreless inning from Carsie Walker and a two-strikeout inning for Isaac Rohde to pick up his sixth save of the season despite allowing three hits and a run.

In the day's finale, errors hindered CU's chance at a sweep as they allowed three unearned runs behind Devan Quesada in a 4-0 loss to the Wildcats as Quesada struck out four batters and allowed six hits and a walk.

The only mutli-hit games of the day for Clarke came from Victor Lara in game two from the leadoff spot and Taiga Sato at DH in the nine-hole in the opener as Bryce Hinton collected the only RBI for the Pride on the day with the other run from the win coming on a throwing error from Culver-Stockton.

The Pride and Wildcats will wrap up the regular season on Sunday afternoon with a doubleheader starting at 1:00 p.m. CT in Canton, Mo. with a Heart North Division Title on the line for Clarke.
