Tucker twirls a gem as the Pride run away with an 8-1 win over Park-Gilbert
Tempe, Ariz. - Beginning a three-game swing in Arizona, the Clarke University baseball team earned their fifth-straight win by way of an 8-1 final over Park University-Gilbert on Sunday night in Tempe, Ariz.
The Pride were led by a strong performance for the third-straight start by junior Tyson Tucker as the right-hander allowed exactly four hits over six innings for the second-straight game as he picks up his third win of the year. It's also Tucker's second-straight double-digit strikeout performance as he punched out 11 Buccaneer batters in his six innings while only allowing one earned run in his outing.
Carsie Walker and Nolan Lamere combined to throw three perfect innings in relief as they combined to strike out five batters without allowing a baserunner to finish the game off.
CU's offense was opportunistic while scoring their runs in bunches with a three-run second inning and a four-run fourth to lead 3-0 and 7-1 at the conclusion of those innings. A pair of bases loaded walks in the second inning and a two-RBI double from Bryce Hinton was the big blows in those innings to help push Clakre ahead and cushion their lead.
Hinton finished with the lone multi-RBI performance adding a third driven in on an RBI ground out in the fifth inning to push the score to that eventual 8-1 final. Eight different players scored runs for the Pride and Bryce Simon had the only two-hit game as he went 2-for-5 with a double and a run scored.
Clarke baseball will turnaround for a new foe in the desert tomorrow night as they will face Arizona Christian in Mesa, Ariz. on Monday night at 7:00 p.m. CT/6:00 p.m. MT.
