Gavayne Smith has been voted on by the Clarke Community as the Pride Male Athlete of the Week for the athletic week that started on Monday, Dec. 1 and wrapped up on Sunday, Dec. 7.

Smith received 51 percent of the vote in a poll sent out to Clarke's campus for his performance in Clarke track and field's first indoor meet of the 2025-26 season at the Frigid Bee Invite in Davenport, Iowa.

The senior sprinter was able to qualify for the finals of the 60-meter dash where he would win the event with a school record time of 6.80 seconds, which hit the NAIA National Championships B Standard of qualification on the nose.

Smith improved from the qualification round to the finals by 0.03 of a second bested his own school record by 0.06 of a second while earning the race win by a 0.15-second margin over second place.

Clarke track and field will wrap up the 2025 calendar year this week when they head back to Davenport for the Finals Week Multi and Invite on Thursday and Friday Dec. 11-12.
