St. Louis, Mo., native Scott Schuessler came to Clarke in 1997 and left his mark on the Crusaders' men's volleyball program.

A three-time recipient of the Crusaders' Most Valuable Player Award, Schuessler still ranks as the program's all-time leader in kills (1,532), block solos (176), block assists (352), total blocks (528) and points.  The product of Vianney High School ranks third in all-time attack attempts (3,016) and fourth in kills per set (4.03).

Schuessler, a three-time team captain, was a member of the men's volleyball program when it was a member of the Midwest Collegiate Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (MIVA), which was comprised primarily of NCAA Division I institutions. He consistently ranked among the national leaders in blocks and kills and was cited as a national player of the week.  Schuessler earned honorable mention all-conference honors as a freshman and ranked fourth nationally in blocking average (1.54 bpg) and fifth nationally in kills average (5.0 kpg) the following season.

Schuessler was named to the 1999 Molten Division III National Championship All-Tournament Team.  The Crusaders finished third at the event, which was contested at Clarke's Robert and Ruth Kehl Center. The Crusaders ranked third in the final American Volleyball Coaches Association Top 10 poll that year.

A four-year member of the Dean's List, Schuessler was named Clarke's Male Freshman Athlete of the Year in 1997 and was a 2001 MIVA Academic All-Conference honoree.

Schuessler graduated Magna Cum Laude and received his bachelor of human health science degree, master of science in physical therapy degree, and his doctorate of physical therapy degree from Clarke.

Scott and his wife, Johanna, reside in St. Louis and have three children, Krista, 7, Kinley 4, and Alison, 1. He owns two physical therapy practices in St. Louis.
