Karen Martinek-Anger, of East Dubuque, Ill., was an eight-time varsity letterwinner at Clarke while participating in both softball and volleyball. She was named the recipient of Clarke's Outstanding Freshman Female Athlete Award and the Ed Colbert Athletics Career Achievement Award, which is presented annually to a senior male and a senior female student-athlete in recognition of their outstanding career achievements in Clarke University athletics.
As a member of the Crusaders' softball program, the 1997 graduate of East Dubuque High School earned Midwest Classic Conference All-Conference honors in 1995 and Northern Illinois – Iowa Conference honors in 1997. The two-time team captain was named Academic All-Conference in both 1995 and 1997.
Martinek-Anger ranks sixth in career runs scored (100), seventh in home runs (8) and stolen base percentage (.929), eighth in RBIs (78), ninth in slugging percentage (.471) and tenth in doubles (25).
Martinek-Anger was cited as a Midwest Classic Conference All-Conference volleyball performer following the 1994 and 1995 seasons. A three-time team captain, Martinek-Anger was named the recipient of the squad's Most Valuable Player Award and Hustle Award in 1993, 1994 and 1995.
Martinek-Anger received her bachelor of science degree in biology at Clarke and her master's degree in educational leadership from Western Illinois University. She is currently employed as a science teacher at Southwestern High School in Hazel Green, Wisconsin.
Karen and her husband, Rick, have three children, Alex, Megan, and Rachel.
