Colesburg, Iowa native Jill (Slater) Miller was a four-year standout at Clarke as a member of the Crusaders’ softball program.

Miller came to Clarke in 2003 following her graduation from Edgewood-Colesburg High School, where she competed in basketball, softball and volleyball.  Many of Miller’s marks set during her career at Clarke still stand today. She is Clarke’s career leader in wins (46), saves (6), appearances (123), strikeouts per seven innings (5.80), lowest opponent batting average (.242) and batters faced (2,272).  She ranks second in starts (80), shutouts (13), innings pitched (512), strikeouts (424) and games finished (36).  Miller fashioned a career 2.42 ERA, third best all-time.

Miller earned Northern Illinois – Iowa Conference All-Conference honors in 2005, NIIC Honorable Mention All-Conference honors in 2006 when Clarke posted its fourth straight 20-win season, and was a D3 Independents First-Team All-Independent selection and Clarke MVP in 2007.  In 2004, Miller was a member of the Crusaders’ NCAA Regional qualifying team.

Miller was the recipient of Clarke’s Female Freshman of the Year Award in 2004 and the Female Senior Athlete of the Year Award in 2007.

Miller received her bachelor of science degree in nursing at Clarke in 2007, her masters of nursing nurse practitioner degree at Clarke in 2011 and her doctorate of nursing practice at Clarke in 2014.  She was inducted into Sigma Theta Tau, the honors society for nursing.

Following her graduation from Clarke in 2007, Miller served as a RN BSN at the University of Iowa Hospital Intensive Care Unit from 2007 to 2011. Since 2011, Miller has been a nurse practitioner at Physicians’ Clinic of Iowa Neurology in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

When asked about what she would like the Clarke Community to remember about her, Miller replied “That hard work and determination does pay off in the end.”

Jill and her husband, Adam, reside in Anamosa, Iowa, and have two children, Adalynn and Allan.
