Rockford, Ill., native Deann Trapp Petitgout was a key contributor on Clarke's basketball program that won back-to-back Northern Illinois – Iowa Conference (NIIC) championships in 1997-98 and 1998-99. The four-year letterwinner and three-time MVP earned most improved player honors as a freshman before being honored by league coaches as an NIIC All-Conference selection the next three seasons.

As a junior, Petitgout broke school records for points in a game (40), season scoring average (22.4), and season rebound average (13.2). Her single-season scoring average and single-season rebounding average records still stand. She earned NIIC Athlete of the Week honors on six occasions and ranked eighth nationally in rebounding and ninth in scoring. Petitgout paced the NIIC in scoring (21.9), rebounding (13.6) and field goal percentage (57.6).

Petitgout broke school marks in both field goals made in a game (17) and most rebounds in a game (23) as a senior. Both records still stand today. The NIIC Player of the Year produced the school's third and fourth highest single-game scoring marks with 37 and 36 points, respectively.

Petitgout ended her career as the school's second all-time leading rebounder (959) and third all-time leading scorer (1,456). She ranked first in field goal percentage (.522), second in field goals made (583) and rebounding average (10.3), third in throws made (285) and fourth in scoring average (15.7)

Today, Petitgout's career field goal percentage still stands as a school record and she continues to rank second in all-time rebounding and third in all-time scoring. Petitgout continues to rank second in rebound average and field goals made, third in free throws made and fourth in scoring average.

Petitgout was named the recipient of the Sister Mary Benedict Phelan Psychology Award and the Ed Colbert Career Athletics Achievement Award as a senior.

Petitgout earned her bachelor of arts degree in psychology from Clarke and her master of science in education degree in kinesiology and physical education with a specialization in sport and exercise psychology from Northern Illinois University.

Deann and her husband, Patrick, have three children, Emma, Chloe, and Braylee.
