Swisher, Iowa native Amy Calonder was a four-year varsity letterwinner as a member of Clarke’s women’s volleyball program. Calonder earned Northern Illinois – Iowa Conference All-Conference and All-NAIA Independent honors in 1996 and was a repeat all-conference selection in 1997. The 1997 team MVP served as team captain in 1997 and 1998.
Calonder continues to rank among the leaders in both single-season and career statistical categories. She is the career leader in block solos (286) and total blocks (608). Calonder ranks third in career block assists (3.32), blocks per set (1.32) and points (1,788), fourth in kills (1,187), fifth in attack attempts (3,283), sixth in points per set (3.90), eighth in service aces (154) and ninth in sets played (459). She ranks first in total defense and fourth in total offense.
Calonder owns single-season records for block solos (128), block assists (162), blocks per set (2.39), total blocks (277) and points per set (5.54). She ranks second in single-season points (643), fifth in kills (407) and service aces (108), and sixth in kills per set (3.51) and service aces per set (.87).
Following her graduation from Clarke, Calonder served as an elementary special education teacher and head volleyball coach at Glenwood (Iowa) Elementary School from 1999 to 2002. During the 2002-2003 school year, Calonder taught at Center Point (Iowa) Elementary School and was an assistant volleyball coach at Coe College in Cedar Rapids. Since 2003, Calonder has been employed as a kindergarten-second grade special education teacher and head varsity volleyball coach at Tipton (Iowa) Elementary School. She was named the 2016 River Valley South Conference Co-Coach of the Year.
Calonder is a 1995 graduate of Cedar Rapids Prairie High School, where she competed in track and volleyball.
Calonder received her bachelor of arts degree in education from Clarke in 1999 and her master of science in education degree from Walden University in 2008.
Amy and her husband, Adam, reside in Tipton, Iowa with their three children, Avary, Braydon, and Hadley.
