Jerry Hanson
Sports Information Director
Working in college athletics for over four decades, Jerry Hanson becomes the first Sports Information Director to enter the Clarke Athletics Hall of Fame.
Serving as Clarke’s SID from 1997 to 2021, Hanson brought nearly 20 years of experience from serving in the same role at his Alma Mater of Briar Cliff from 1978 until 1997.
Over his tenure, Hanson covered 28 All-Americans, 42 conference champions, and helped induct 11 Hall of Fame classes that included 54 athletes, coaches, or contributors. Over his 24 seasons at Clarke, Hanson also helped oversee three different transitions between college divisions as well as the Clarke Athletics rebranding from Crusaders to Pride.
In the middle of his time as the Sports Information Director, Hanson also served as Clarke’s golf coach for seven seasons.
Following his retirement in 2021, Hanson received the Lifetime Achievement Award from CoSIDA, now College Sports Communicators, one of the highest honors that can be handed out by his peers in all divisions of college athletics.
Hanson hopes the Clarke Community will remember that he thoroughly enjoyed his job, had a great career, looked forward to going to work every day, and felt very lucky that he was able to work with college student-athletes his entire career.
