Breland (Prochaska) Scharschmidt

Women's Basketball

The first All-America selection for Clarke University women’s basketball, Breland (Prochaska) Scharschmidt joins the 2023 Class of the Clarke Athletics Hall of Fame as an athlete who helped start the upward trend of Pride women’s basketball.

The 2016 Ed Colbert Career Achievement Award Recipient, Scharschmidt picked up her fair share of individual accolades including being named 2015 NAIA All-America Honorable Mention, a four-time All-Conference selection, as she currently 5th on the program’s all-time scoring list (1,527).

Scharschmidt was the leading score for Clarke in 2014-15 at 13.8 points per game for the program’s first 20-win season where they also reached the NAIA Division II Tournament for the first time in program history.

Her career numbers place her 10th in field goals made (447), fourth in three pointers made (150), second in free throws made (483), third in free throw percentage (78.2%), sixth in steals (196), eighth in assists (310), 10th in scoring average (12.6), tied for ninth in games played (121), and fourth in games started (117).

She is tied for the ninth-most points scored in a game with a 32-point performance in 2016 against Governors State where she also made the second-most three pointers in a game in school history with eight and had the sixth best three-point shooting percentage in a game in school history at 53.3%.

Scharschmidt still holds the record for most free throws made in a single game with 16 against AIB in 2013 and has two other games with 15 and 14 free throws made in a game.

Earning both a Bachelor’s Degree in 2016 and a Doctorate of Physical Therapy in 2018, Scharschmidt has worked as a Physical Therapist in Platteville, Wis. since her graduation in 2018.

Scharschmidt hopes that the Clarke Community remembers that she strived to be the best in everything that she took part in while making a positive impact on everyone that she met throughout her collegiate career and profession as a physical therapist.
