Pride stay hot with dominant 6-1 win at Culver-Stockton
CANTON, Mo. - Coming off of one of the best wins in program history, the Clarke University women's soccer team carried that momentum on the road in the form of a 6-1 win over Culver-Stockton College on Wednesday night.
The Pride, in fact, scored all seven goals in the game as they put the first six into Culver-Stockton's net then would unfortunately produce an own goal into their own net but it was Morgan Catchur who would get the scoring started early on in the first half as she would head in a corner kick from Brie Cote to make it 1-0.
Not long after that, Jayden Black would get on the board as she collected a second ball off of a Cote long free kick and volley home her fifth goal of the seasonin the 26th minute.
Under three minutes into the second half, Clarke would extend their lead to 3-0 on Laryssa Pritchard's fourth goal of the year as she was able to break free away from two CSC defenders in the box and curl a shot from the left side into the far post.
The first two goal scorers would connect for the fourth Pride goal of the game as a defensive half turnover from the Wildcats would put Catchur on the ball on a counter attack where she would feed Black on the run down the left side for the freshman to send a ball towards the net from a similar spot as Pritchard's goal, beating Culver-Stockton keeper Mackenzie Frizzell again to make it 4-0.
Clarke's final two goals would both be firsts for CU as freshman Hailey Packer would net her first goal of her collegiate career in the 69th minute as she would beat the defense on a nice long pass from Hope Ward, chipping Frizzell to make it 5-0.
With just about nine minutes remaining in the game junior center back Morgan Lock would dribble from about midfield to 25 yards away from goal to fire a shot to beat Frizzell for Lock's first career goal.
Unable to close out the clean sheet, Clarke would allow the own goal on long free kick attempt that would deflect off the head of a Pride defender into their own net with just over six minutes remaining.
That would go down as the only shot on goal taken against back-to-back reigning Heart Defensive Player of the Week Faith Krapl as she would give way to sophomore Mia Braddock for the final three-plus minutes of the game for Braddock's first varsity action of her career.
Clarke women's soccer will return to their home field for another weekend matchup against a Heart South opponent when Baker University comes to Burrows Field on Saturday, Oct. 5 for a 5:00 p.m. CT scheduled kickoff.
