Pride can't make strong first half hold, fall 4-0 to No. 18 Central Methodist

DUBUQUE, Iowa - Entering the weekend with a home game at Burrows Field, the Clarke University women's soccer hosted the NAIA ranked No. 18 team in Central Methodist University where the Eagles would earn a 4-0 victory.

The Pride would hold the Eagles off until the 40th minute when Mariana Barreto scored a goal off of a ball sent in by Rieke Protze for the the only goal for the half despite taking five shots with two on goal for the half.

In the second half, CMU continued to add pressure which would result in another goal about 17 minutes into the period where Barreto tallied her second goal of the game.

Less than a minute later, Barreto would earn her second hat trick of the season putting the ball just out of reach of Clarke's goalie Faith Krapfl for Barreto's third goal of the game.

Krapfl faced seven shots on goal during her 60 minutes of play and recorded four saves before giving way to freshman, Abigail Turley for the remaining 30 minutes where the Eagles would put one more in the back of the net in the 84th minute when Laura Andres scored.

Six members of the Pride combined to take their eight shots on the game with Ashlyn McKamely and Emily Marino taking two each, then Liv Turnquist, Abby Prunty, Laryssa Pritchard, and Audrey McKenna all taking a shot on goal each.

Pride women's soccer will return to Burrows Field on Tuesday, September 23 host Mount Mercy University for a 5 p.m. CT scheduled kickoff.
